Commercial zoning is no fit for Thompson Nursery Road
Winter Haven’s recent decision to grant C-3 commercial zoning along Thompson Nursery Road should concern residents who expect growth to follow planning, transparency and fairness.
This rezoning places high-intensity commercial use directly against established neighborhoods such as Villamar and Terranova — years before supporting infrastructure will exist.
Even the developer’s engineer acknowledged the road network cannot support commercial traffic and that the Thompson Nursery Road extension may not be completed until 2029 or 2030. That is zoning first, infrastructure later…
