Polk County officials ban personal fireworks amid dry spell

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Polk County officials have a pretty clear message on this New Year’s fireworks: don’t try them at home.

“It’s dry so any spark or small ember, not only from fireworks, but outside fires can spark off into these wildland fires or these brush fires,” said Kevin Shireman, assistant chief of Polk County Fire Rescue.
