Lakeland city-owned vehicles will automatically monitor roads for potential potholes

LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) — The City of Lakeland will equip some vehicles with sensors to automatically monitor road conditions.

Commissioners voted unanimously Monday to approve a contract with Roadway Management Technologies LLC, which will provide the sensors and software.

The vehicles outfitted with the sensors, such as garbage trucks, will automatically collect data on the pavement’s condition as they drive over it. The sensors will use vibrations to monitor for cracks, potholes or weak spots in the pavement…
