Lakeland honors Martin Luther King’s legacy with parade, community events

Hundreds will gather in Lakeland this weekend to celebrate the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy as a civil rights leader.

The city’s 48th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade is at 1 p.m. Jan. 17. This year’s theme is “A Legacy of Strength, a Future of Actions.”

The parade will feature more than 100 participants consisting of floats, marching bands, dance teams and decorated vehicles. It begins at Providence Road and West 14th Street. It will travel south following a route that turns east onto 10th Street, then continues south onto MLK Jr. Avenue, ending at 2nd Street…
