POLK COUNTY, FL – Late last month, a routine drive down US 98 west of Frostproof took a bizarre turn for two motorists passing the Crooked Lake Wildlife and Environmental Area.
Two women, driving in separate vehicles, reported seeing a 68-year-old man, later identified as Willie, standing near the roadside wearing nothing but his shoes and glasses.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect initially “turned the other cheeks” and fled into the woods after being spotted by the drivers. Deputies responding to the scene were told by a witness that a red Lincoln was parked at the park entrance, which allowed investigators to trace the vehicle back to Willie’s nearby residence…
