Polk County burn ban violators could face fines, jail time after 30+ weekend brush fires

POLK COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – Polk County Fire responded to over 30 fires over the weekend. On Monday, authorities noted that many of them started because residents disregarded the burn ban.

“In February, Polk County Fire Rescue has responded to 170 brush fires.” Fire Chief Shawn Smith told NewsChannel8 during a press conference. “About 3100 acres have been burned.”
