Florida soldier killed in Kuwait drone attack remembered as leader who lived for others

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Flags flew at half-staff across Florida Saturday as family members, fellow soldiers and commanding officers gathered to say farewell to Maj. Cody Khork, a Polk County native killed in a drone attack March 1 in Kuwait.

Khork, 35, was one of six soldiers from the Iowa-based 103rd Sustainment Command who died in the attack. He is among at least 13 U.S. service members killed since the war with Iran began.

Born and raised in Winter Haven, his remains arrived home on Wednesday. His funeral Saturday drew speakers from across his military career, which began in 2009. The words that returned again and again were “devotion,” “professionalism” and “drive.”…
