A 23-year-old Lakeland woman, Alexis McCants, was arrested and placed under a Baker Act following a high-speed crash on southbound I-275 in Tampa on Saturday, April 4, 2026.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. near the Howard Frankland Bridge area. Witnesses reported McCants was driving a Ford Fusion at high speeds and weaving through traffic before colliding with a Toyota RAV4.

  • The Crash: The Ford Fusion sustained heavy front-end damage; fortunately, the driver of the Toyota was not injured.
  • The Arrest: When troopers arrived, they found a half-full bottle of tequila in McCantsโ€™ car and noted she smelled of alcohol. As officers attempted to interview her, she became combative, walking toward active lanes of traffic and eventually striking the officers.
