A Florida suspect accused of stealing a car and switching its tag while heading toward Birmingham was arrested in Calera after the vehicle was detected by a city tag reader, Calera police said.
“This morning around 9:00, we received a call from a Lakeland, Florida detective who informed us that a suspect in a stolen vehicle with a switched tag had passed one of our FLOCK tag readers,” the City of Calera Police Department said. Police said officers responded and “arrested the felony suspect, who has multi-state prior arrests.” The victim’s car was recovered.
Police said the suspect “apparently met someone selling their car on the internet in Lakeland last night and stole it,” and that “the tag on the vehicle was switched with a stolen tag to throw off law enforcement.”…
