Polk County drop-off trash site aims to curb illegal dumping

POLK COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Residential concerns about illegal dumping, specifically in the northeast area of Polk County, have led county leaders to launch a pilot program to try to curb the unsightly problem.

“Illegal dumping all over the county has become an issue, especially in that northeast section,” said Katie Hayes, executive director of Keep Polk County Beautiful. “A dirty community is just that, it’s a dirty community. It reduces the value of your home. It reduces the value of your community.”

It is the mission of Hayes’ organization to rid the county of tires, furniture, mattresses and other trash being dumped on the side of the road or in the woods.
