LEBANON, PA — A 63-year-old woman from Lebanon is believed to have lost about $384,000, along with hundreds of Apple gift cards, in an alleged romance and catfishing scam, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
The reported fraud happened Sept. 6 and is being investigated by the Jonestown Criminal Investigation Unit. Troopers say they are still working to determine the exact amount taken and to identify the accounts and people tied to the scheme.
Police say the case is a reminder of how quickly an online relationship can turn into a financial loss when the person on the other end is not who they claim to be.
