Incumbent Smucker to face political newcomer Atkinson in Pennsylvania 11th District race

(WHTM) – Incumbent Republican Congressman Lloyd Smucker will face political newcomer Jim Atkinson in the November race for Pennsylvania’s 11th Congressional District.

Both candidates ran unopposed in the April 23 primary.

Smucker has served in Congress since 2017 after more than seven years in the State Senate. The Lancaster County native owned the Smucker Company, a commercial construction firm, and served in local government as a Township Supervisor and Planning Commmission member.

Now a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, Smucker’s House website says he’s “fighting to support America’s free enterprise system, to expand apprenticeships and technical education opportunities for students, and help hardworking Americans save for retirement.”

Conversely, Atkinson has described himself as a “career airline pilot” living in Lancaster raising three young children.

“I want my children to inherit the kind of USA I grew up in, where dreams come true and with what politics has recently descended to, I’m deeply concerned for the future,” says Atkinson’s campaign website.
