Rowhome fire displaces five in Lancaster

LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) — Firefighters battled a rowhome fire that displaced five people in Lancaster yesterday.

According to a Facebook post from the Lancaster Township Fire Department, volunteers responded to a fire at S. West End Avenue, a three-story duplex, on Friday, January 3, at approximately 5:08 p.m.

The post says witnesses reported smoke and flames emanating from the third floor of 501 S. West End Avenue and spreading through an open void between the two units. Firefighters swiftly contained the blaze, but an extensive overhaul was required to extinguish the flames and ensure no hot spots remained.

The post says the fire displaced five adults, three cats, and one dog. The American Red Cross was called in to assist the displaced residents, and one cat remained unaccounted for.

No injuries were reported, but the electrical fire caused significant damage, with the total loss to the duplex estimated at $150,000. Damage was assessed at approximately $20,000 for each side of the building, per the post.
