Citations dismissed in drone deer recovery case, PGC says it’s still illegal activity

Even though citations were dismissed Thursday in a case regarding someone using a drone to help recover a wounded deer, the Pennsylvania Game Commission reminds hunters that drones are still prohibited for use in any form of hunting.

On Thursday in Lancaster County Court during a summary appeal hearing, citations for disturbing game or wildlife, restrictions on recreational spotlighting and two citations for using unlawful devices and methods were dismissed against Joshua T. Wingenroth, 35, of Downingtown.

In February, he was found guilty in district court of an incident on Dec. 6, 2023, at Welsh Mountain Nature Reserve in Lancaster County involving undercover Game Commission staff.
