Lancaster man sentenced up to 30 years for violent home invasion

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — A Lancaster City man was sentenced to 15 to 30 years in state prison last month for breaking into an East Hempfield Township home and threatening the resident with a sawed-off shotgun, the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office announced on Thursday.

Judge Jeffrey Conrad sentenced Raymond Joseph Shade Jr., 49, on March 26. A jury had found Shade guilty of charges of burglary, person not to possess a firearm, making repairs to an offensive weapon, terroristic threats and simple assault following a trial in July.

Shade Jr., 49, entered an enclosed porch area of the home in the first block of East Main Street on Oct. 29, 2022. Once inside, Shade Jr. leveled a loaded shotgun at the victim and told him, “I have a gun.” The weapon was reportedly modified with a switchblade knife attached to the barrel as if it were a bayonet…
