Bridges across Lancaster County will face long-term closures for maintenance

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — In an effort to extend the lives of concrete deck bridges throughout Lancaster County, a multi-bridge epoxy coating project will take place in two stages, affecting traffic.

The epoxy coating project is part of the Bridge Maintenance Program to help preserve infrastructure investments and ensure long-term safety and durability.

The first stage of construction is scheduled to take place from May 19 through August 2025. The following bridges will be closed to traffic during the repairs, and detours will be posted:

  • Muddy #1: Carries Frysville Road between East Cocalico and Ephrata Townships
  • The bridge will close on May 19.
  • Little Conestoga #2: Carries School House Road between Manor and Lancaster Townships
  • This bridge is being accelerated to finish before the upcoming Route 741 closure near New Danville.
  • The bridge will close on May 19.
  • Big Chiques #3: Carries Colebrook Road between East Hempfield and Rapho Townships
  • The bridge will close on May 27.
  • Big Chiques #5: Carries Eby Chickies Road between Rapho and West Hempfield Townships
  • The bridge will close May 27.
  • Cocalico #1: Carries Swamp Bridge Road in West Cocalico Township
  • The bridge will close May 27.

In phase two of construction, the following bridges are planned to be closed from August through late fall of 2025:

  • Big Conestoga #7: Carries Eden Road between Manheim and East Lampeter Townships
  • East Octoraro #1: Carries Creek Road between Sadsbury Township and Chester County
  • Pequea #1: Carries Millwood Road in Salisbury Township
  • Pequea #3: Carries Osceola Mill Road between Paradise and Leacock Townships
  • Pequea #6: Carries South Ronks Road between East Lampeter and Strasburg Townships
