Vintage Black & White Images of Amish Life (22 Photos)

The Delaware News Journal is running a great collection of vintage photos of Amish life (link at bottom) in Lancaster County, PA and in the Dover, Delaware community.

These photos date back decades and all are in black-and-white. I’ve pulled a few samples to share with you, but you’ll find all of them at the link at the end of this post.

It’s always neat to get a glimpse of Amish life in another era (like in these images of Lancaster County Amish from the 1960s).

These are some really stellar shots showing farm scenes and candid images of everyday life. Most of these are from the 1970s and 1980s, with one from 1990.

Though the popular idea is that the Amish are “frozen in time”, they do in fact change over time. And in some cases, those changes are quite significant.

If you compared the typical Lancaster County Amish home, farm, and buggy with those of today, you’d come across quite a few new innovations – solar panels on Amish roofs, air bag suspension on buggies, and veterinary advances to name just a few…
