Brooklyn man will stand trial for alleged theft of $550K worth of gold bars from Lancaster County woman

EPHRATA, Pa. — A Brooklyn man will stand trial for his role in the theft of more than half a million dollars from a Lancaster County woman earlier this year after waiving his preliminary hearing last week, the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday, July 29.

Zhong Ren, 44, is accused of conspiring with others to scam an Ephrata woman out of $555,892 worth of gold bars back in April, prosecutors said.

He allegedly impersonated a federal employee and tricked the victim into converting her investments into gold, which he then stole from her Linda Terrace home on April 18, authorities said…
