A look at plans to add lanes, roundabouts to stretch of Route 222 in Berks

MAIDENCREEK TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Roundabouts are an ongoing traffic trend on Route 222 in Berks County.

“I like roundabouts because it keeps the traffic flowing and we just had two roundabouts put in Oley,” said Lisa Traugott of Oley Township. “With roundabouts you might have a fender bender, but no one is gonna get killed cuz everybody has to slow down.”

Now more improvements are planned on 222. PennDOT wants to widen the road to four lanes from Schaeffer Road in Maidencreek Township to the Kutztown Bypass, and that will include two new roundabouts.
