Members needed: Reading wrestles with finding volunteers for Charter Board

READING, Pa. – At its Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday night, Reading City Council discussed a proposal to either merge two boards or remove a restriction that prevents a person from serving on more than one board.

Michael Gombar, council solicitor, explained the main issue facing the city is the fact that there are no current members of the Charter Board. The discussion focused on merging the Ethics and Charter boards or amending the City Charter to remove the restriction.

“It’s never easy to find good, qualified candidates for all the boards and commissions and authorities that we have within the city,” Gombar said. “So we’re trying to think outside the box on how to see if we can find a way to get the Charter Board back up and running.”…
