Lancaster County man charged with blackmailing witness will face trial after waiving preliminary hearing

LANCASTER, Pa. — A Lancaster County man accused of blackmailing a witness in an attempt to compel her to give false testimony on his behalf in a separate arson case will stand trial on the new charges after waiving his preliminary hearing, prosecutors said this week.

Aaron James Hugar, 45, of Mount Joy, was charged last month with two counts of intimidating a witness, according to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office. He waived his preliminary hearing before Judge Michael Hess on July 29.

Hugar is accused of repeatedly contacting the victim between April and July, threatening to release incriminating videos of her in an effort to intimidate her into withholding testimony against him in an arson case from February in which he allegedly set a car on fire during an early-morning domestic incident, according to prosecutors…
