LANCASTER, Pa. — Nearly 230 first responders and civilians came together in Lancaster on Saturday to honor the lives lost almost 24 years ago.
The 15th annual Lancaster 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb challenged participants to climb the equivalent of 110 stories — the same number of floors inside the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers. The event was held at Penn Medicine Park, home of the Lancaster Stormers.
Some climbers took on the challenge in full firefighting gear, including coats, masks and self-contained breathing apparatuses (SCBA), which can weigh between 20 to 30 pounds alone. Others climbed in just helmets, partial gear or athletic wear. Many said the experience was physically demanding — and a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made that day…
