LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — The invitations were already sent. Three billboard were scheduled to go up. Snags, Lancaster County’s most famous squirrel, was turning 10 years old.
Acorn Acres Wildlife Rehabilitation, where she served as an ambassador, planned to go all out by throwing her a birthday party on Sept. 21, 2025.
“Who gets to go to a squirrel’s 10th birthday party?” said Betsy Shank, founder of the Lancaster-based center, noting the excitement leading up to the event. “And then she died.”
Snags, an eastern grey squirrel, passed away on Sept. 3, just weeks before her birthday. Nobody expected it. But as a boundary breaking squirrel, she always did things on her own terms…
