YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — Three female ruby throated hummingbirds got into a turf fight over who was going to use this feeder.
Hummingbirds are extremely territorial, and very aggressive about protecting their food sources. Food’s especially important to them this time of year, when they have to bulk up for a looooong migration to Central America, so none of them were in a sharing mood.
Where do hummingbirds migrate to from Pennsylvania?
They weaved back and forth, each driving her rivals away, undeterred by the fact two ginormous hideous monsters (humans) were standing just feet-and sometimes inches-away from them. At least one of them got in for a few quick sips, but we can’t say for sure that all of them got a slurp of sugar water.
How do hummingbirds know when to migrate?
The ironic part? The feeder has three sippy holes, so they could have all used it at once…
