BCAP shuts doors, furloughs staff, due to funding shortage from government stalemate

READING, Pa. – A local non-profit providing essential services to those in need has temporarily shut its doors.

The Berks Community Action Program (BCAP,) a non-profit organization serving over 2,500 individuals and families in Berks County each year, announced via its Facebook page it will be temporarily suspending services and programs and furloughing staff.

Officials with BCAP say the closure is due to the subsequent lack of funding caused by both the Pennsylvania state budget impasse and the federal government shutdown…
