YORK COUNTY, Pa. — Sam’s Beasties, a foster-based rescue, has been building insulated winter shelters and dropping them off at East York Veterinary Center for anyone to pick up for free. The shelters are designed to help feral, stray, and barn cats survive freezing conditions.
Sam has been rescuing and fostering cats for roughly two decades and formally launched Sam’s Beasties eight years ago. She works full-time in healthcare and builds the shelters on a rolling basis, often late at night after work. When she posted about the project on Facebook, demand surged almost overnight.
