YORK COUNTY, Pa. — Authorities are warning residents about a phone scam involving callers impersonating law enforcement officers from the York County Sheriff’s Department.
According to a post on York County’s Crimewatch, scammers call claiming to be a lieutenant with the department’s Civil Processing Division. Victims are told they missed jury duty or failed to pay fines and court costs. The caller then attempts to collect money or personal information, officials said.
