Historic bridge damaged by box truck reopens after 7 months, $300K in repairs

A historic covered bridge in Lancaster County has reopened months after a box truck crash that caused significant structural damage.

The Neff’s Mill Covered Bridge connecting West Lampeter and Strasburg townships reopened on Dec. 17, according to Michael Fitzpatrick, spokesman for Lancaster County. The bridge is open to the public, he said, and local signage has been updated.

The covered bridge had been closed since May 28, when a box truck headed east on Penn Grant Road entered from the West Lampeter side at about 7:14 p.m., hitting the bridge’s portal. The truck continued through the bridge, damaging heavy timber framing, roof components and sidewalls…
