ICE purchases Berks warehouse for $87.4 million

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency has purchased a large property in Upper Bern Township that includes a sprawling warehouse, according to documents filed Monday with Berks County.

According to a deed filed with the recorder of deeds office, ICE’s facilities management division finalized the purchase of a 62-acre property at 3501 Mountain Road, north of Interstate 78, on Thursday for $87.4 million.

The property includes a 527,000-square-foot warehouse. It sits across Mountain Road from Mountain Springs Camping Resort, a few miles north of Shartlesville. The area is mostly rural, although a large Amazon fulfillment center is located about a half-mile away.
