An investigation into illegal THC products allegedly being sold to children from local smoke shops has resulted in felony charges and the seizure of marijuana and edibles valued at more than $260,000 in Berks County, prosecutors announced on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
Mohammed Hamood Abiah, 39, of Reading; Joshua Velez, 38, of Reading; and Aljenis Kelvin Reyes, 29, of Reading, were charged after a months-long probe by the Berks County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force, according to the release.
Detectives, working alongside West Reading Police, focused their investigation on Prime Tobacco Zone at 438 Penn Avenue in West Reading and NYC Convenience Inc. at 1142 Rockland Street in Reading. The probe began in early 2025 after community members reported that high-potency THC products were allegedly being sold to juveniles, authorities said.
