Pilot flying with family heard ‘loud bang’ moments before fiery crash in Lancaster County

Shortly after Matthew White took off from the Lancaster Airport last year, he heard a “loud bang.”

Thinking it was the engine, White reduced the throttle, which manages aircraft speed. But then he realized the bang was from the door of the plane popping open, not the engine, so he pushed the throttle back in.

But it didn’t work. He could not increase his airspeed and the plane was at a low altitude because he had just taken off, he said in a recently released crash report…
