Early‑morning fire on East Walnut Street in Lancaster leaves 1 dead

LANCASTER, Pa. — A fire early Sunday in the 600 block of East Walnut Street left one person dead and injured a firefighter, according to officials.

Lancaster County Dispatch reported that the call came in around 5:30 a.m. and that Lancaster City Fire responded. Dispatchers advised the public to avoid the area.

Fire Chief Todd Hutchinson said crews arrived to heavy fire conditions on the first floor. He said firefighters also encountered severe hoarding conditions throughout the residence, which made operations more difficult.
