HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHP) — This weekend’s rain has disrupted ice on the Susquehanna River, causing what’s known as an ice jam.
Ice jams happen when temperatures warm and/or runoff from heavy rain goes into the river, causing the existing river ice to break up into large chunks, as explained by Chief Meteorologist Tom Russell.
