Driver who killed central Pa. woman checking her mailbox learns his sentence

A motorist initially charged with vehicular homicide while DUI after he fatally struck a woman checking her mailbox has been sentenced on a lesser count.

In Lebanon County court last month, Michael Zimmerman, 64, was sentenced to spend six months on house arrest on a count of involuntary manslaughter for fatally striking 51-year-old Jill Shaub as she checked her mailbox at around 3:49 p.m. Aug. 22.

He spent a week in Lebanon County Prison, per a sentencing order by county Judge Charles Jones, and will lose his driver’s license for at least five years…
