Lancaster homeless encampment set to be cleared Monday

LANCASTER, Pa. — Roughly 25 people have been living in a homeless encampment off New Holland Avenue in Lancaster. By Monday, that number will be zero, after the city set a deadline for everyone at the site to leave.

Dan Costarella has been assisting residents of the encampment through his nonprofit, Hands Up Partners, including providing help with trash removal.

Costarella said the city ended its assistance for trash pickup this year, which he says led to garbage piling up at the site. He added that residents who remain in the encampment will have few options once they leave…
