The family of a man killed at Lincoln University is suing the school, claiming that the shooting could have been avoided

The family of a 20-year-old Lincoln University student, Ju’Juan Jeffers, is suing the school after their son was fatally shot during the university’s homecoming celebration in October 2025. The family claims that the university’s negligence played a role in the tragic event.

Allegations of Negligence and Inadequate Security

In a complaint filed following Jeffers’ death, his family alleges that Lincoln University was warned about the potential dangers of hosting such a large crowd but failed to take necessary precautions. “The killing was foretold to Lincoln University. They were warned, they were offered help, and they refused help,” the complaint asserts.

The family further claims that the university was “totally ill-equipped” for the crowd, noting the lack of metal detectors, security wands, and checks on ID. They argue that these failures contributed to the shooting incident.

Details of the Shooting Incident

The fatal shooting occurred on the night of October 26, 2025, during the university’s homecoming celebration. Gunshots rang out around 9:30 p.m., and Jeffers was struck in the head, tragically losing his life. Six others were injured in the attack. Zecqueous Morgan-Thompson has since been charged with carrying a firearm without a license in connection with the incident.

Chester County District Attorney Chris de Barrena-Sarobe stated that investigators believe the shooter(s) did not intend to cause a mass casualty event. “We’re treating this as a shooting that broke out in the middle of homecoming weekend,” he said during a press conference.
