Field trip funding cut for School District of Lancaster in response to $15.3 million overspending

LANCASTER, Pa. — Field trips for the School District of Lancaster are being cut as leaders work to close a nearly $10 million budget shortfall—leaving parents and teachers rushing to fill the gap.

For years, the district largely covered the cost of student field trips, with parent-teacher organizations occasionally pitching in to enhance experiences. However, parents say that changed abruptly this winter.

“It was a surprise, it was a hard time,” said Marie Dillon, PTO President at Reynolds Middle School. “We didn’t realize that we were going to be funding the whole field trip.”…
