York City Police warn of scam targeting community

YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– Police in the City of York are warning residents of a scam going around the community.

The York City Police Department said it is seeing an increase in scams targeting the community. Residents are being contacted with messages claiming they missed jury duty, have a warrant, have unpaid PennDOT fines, or have other legal matters.

Police said that it is most likely a scam, even if it looks or sounds official. They said law enforcement will never demand immediate payment over the phone or request payment through gift cards, apps, or unusual methods.
