Backyard Bomb Backfires on Lancaster County Dad, Cops Say

A Narvon father is recovering after a homemade pipe bomb exploded in a shed behind his home in Salisbury Township, Lancaster County, according to state police. The 51-year-old man was taken to a hospital with facial and eye injuries, where medical staff removed shrapnel from his head. The blast happened Saturday on Jacob Road.

How Troopers Say The Backyard Device Was Built

State troopers told reporters that the man, identified in charging documents as Travis Peachey, put together a device using a PVC pipe packed with about six ounces of black powder and wired it to a motorcycle-style switch, according to KABB. Investigators say he placed the device on a pile of wood outside a shed, then later picked it back up after guests canceled. Troopers report he was trying to disarm it when he dropped it and it detonated. Afterward, investigators found a hole in the shed floor, according to the same report.

Charges And Custody

Online court records from the Pennsylvania Unified Judicial System case search show that Peachey is being held at Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $500,000 bail. According to public filings reviewed by reporters, he was arrested the same day as the explosion after arriving at the hospital with injuries consistent with a blast. Authorities say the investigation is still active, and additional paperwork could be filed as troopers and prosecutors continue reviewing the case.

Legal Implications

Charging documents cited by KABB list two counts of endangering the welfare of children, risking catastrophe, possession of an explosive, three counts of attempted aggravated assault, and three counts of recklessly endangering another person. All are felony-level allegations that could bring significant penalties if prosecutors secure convictions. How that plays out will depend on upcoming court proceedings, with a preliminary hearing or arraignment expected to be scheduled in the Lancaster County court system…
