LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Michigan State Employees Association, MSEA, is calling on the Michigan Department of Transportation to review safety protocols following the death of two road service workers in May.
On May 26, 51-year-old Bruce Wagner and 49-year-old Steve Spenle were hit and killed by an SUV while working on US-127 at Cedar Street in Mason after the 24-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle.

MSEA cites the two men’s deaths as well as other close calls and accidents as inciting its push for “full accountability” from MDOT.
MSEA is asking MDOT to review its work zone safety protocols, including the use of proper equipment and traffic signage.
“Their deaths have left their families, co-workers and communities grieving. The Michigan Department of Transportation management has a responsibility to make sure workers are not sent into dangerous conditions without the proper equipment, signage, staffing and traffic control procedures,” MSEA said in a news release…
