‘Wonderful people’: Holt bakery shelters woman from storm

DELHI TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLNS) —  During Friday’s nasty storm, a Holt bakery became a haven for one woman from Mason.

74-year-old Wendy Ehnis tells 6 News she was caught in the storm while trying to pick up her order from Mr. Leslie’s Cheesecakes. When she arrived, Ehnis says she jumped out of her car and quickly hurried inside the store, completely drenched.

“I saw the door open up and this arm says, ‘Come in, come in. And there he was. He stuck his head out and didn’t ask me one question,” said Ehnis.

Marcus and Kathleen Leslie, the owners of Mr. Leslie’s Cheesecakes, say they heard sirens outside their store and began preparing to get the rest of their staff into the walk-in cooler for shelter. That’s when Ehnis arrived.

“She ran in, and she was soaking wet, and (we told her to) come on in the back,” said Kathleen Leslie…
