EAST LANSING – Katin Houser knew his time at Michigan State was up.

One day after taking a beating while being the only scholarship quarterback available as the 2023 season mercifully came to an end with a 42-0 loss against Penn State, Jonathan Smith was hired as the new coach of the Spartans. He was also bringing Aidan Chiles, one of the top young quarterbacks in the portal, with him from Oregon State.

“(Smith) nicely said like, hey, you can be the backup,” Houser told MLive during Big Ten media days in July. “I was like, you know what, I feel like I’m a really good player, I need to go find somewhere else and that’s what I did.”…
