LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Friday is the first day of Quality Dairy’s paczki season, with paczkis now officially in the case. And in this case, Quality Dairy is doing its first-ever paczki eating contest to celebrate.
“Well, I think the more exciting thing for today is going to be that Paczki eating competition. I’m really excited to see how these contestants do competing for their charities,” Phil Platte, Quality Dairy Marketing Manager.
Officials said each year during paczki season, Quality Dairy sells 250 thousand paczkis on the days leading up to Fat Tuesday, and today mid-Michiganders will be seeing how many of them they can devour in three minutes.
“I think people just enjoy it. It’s a comfort food and its short-lived product so it’s only in the stores, as we just said, for a couple weeks and so people just really look forward to having it,” Platte said.
According to Platte, there will be four contestants- each from a different organization in mid-Michigan including:
- Scott Lorms – Saved By Zade
- Jordan Weber – Michigan Business Professionals of America
- Akiem Harshman – Judson Baptist Church
- Holly Mulligan – City Rescue Mission of Lansing
