Man treated for hypothermia after ‘fleeing’ into river to avoid arrest for allegedly threatening to kill ‘ex-girlfriend and boyfriend’: MSP

(WWJ) – Michigan State Police said they deployed canoes on Friday to arrest a man in Thornapple River after he allegedly threatened his “ex-girlfriend and boyfriend.”

Michigan State Troopers responded to a call that a 32-year-old man “threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend and boyfriend” on Jan. 26. It was reported that the suspect may have been intoxicated and suicidal, according to MSP First District’s Twitter.

The suspect was found in the area of Vermontville Highway and Bradley Road, in Chester Township.

Authorities say the suspect fled into the Thornapple River on foot. A Michigan State Police K9 unit was used to track the suspect through the river and swamp. Eaton County’s Drone Unit was also deployed, and found the suspect in the water.

Troopers used a canoe to take the suspect into custody.

The suspect was taken to Sparrow Hospital to be treated for hypothermia, intoxication and to receive a mental evaluation, according to the Tweet.

The suspect, from Holt, will be transferred to the Eaton County Jail after being released from the hospital, though charges have not been determined yet, authorities said.
