LANSING — A Lansing man is ready to fulfill a longtime dream as he prepares to open a soul food restaurant in a 4,400-square-foot building on South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard that’s been vacant since a “sober bar” closed in 2022.
When Mikal Moore opens Carrie’s Kitchen this spring at 3812 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., previously home to Wing Heaven Sports Haven, the restaurant will serve dishes his grandmother Carrie often served his family.
Oxtail, pot roast, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, fried chicken, and cabbage all will be on the menu, Moore said. Desserts like banana pudding and cakes, both made in-house, will be offered, too.
Moore said owning a restaurant has been a dream since he was 12, when he started experimenting in the kitchen. Now, after more than a decade working as a district manager for fast food chain Rally’s, he’s poised to make his dream happen.
Renovations are underway at property
Building renovations and updates are already underway at the property, Moore said. He hopes to open the restaurant sometime in April.
