MASON, Mich. (WLNS) – A neighborhood in Ingham County has been experiencing escalating episodes of flooding over the last several years.
That’s been the experience for neighbors behind Villages at Franklin Farms in Mason.
“It’s been years that we’ve been dealing with this,” says Kathy Mace. She’s drained from battling the lack of drainage.
“This year has just been s-o-o-o much worse.”
Ingham County Deputy Drain Commissioner Paul Pratt says there’s a reason.
“Twenty years of mismanaged drains,” he tells 6 News.
Mace has lived behind Villages at Franklin Farms for 17 years. And the flooding has gotten so pervasive, she’s spent $6,000 to build a dry riverbed to help reroute the flood waters and prevent them from damaging her home.
“Right now, my neighbors are running with two big hoses, their water, into my riverbed,” Mace says. “So, that’ll take it down.”
Her neighbor Melissa Haddad has been pumping flood water into the dry bed to protect her property.
