LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — It may not be very cold or snowy in Lansing, but the Winterfest goes on.
Saturday was the kick-off for the annual Lansing Winterfest–and it all started out with a block party downtown .
Community members were out and about, going to their favorite stores and checking out all the fun outdoor activities.
Like many, Susana Esp is proud to live in Lansing. “I mean, like, this city is trying to come around,” Esp said. “As long as they keep the community close, we’ll come out. We’ll check it out, whatever’s going on.”
One of the many things that Esp’s daughter, Alexis, enjoyed about the event was the live ice carving.
“A lot of people see ice sculptures set up in places, but they don’t actually see how they’re made, how they’re done,” said ice carver June Elmer. “So we like to come out and show people, answer some questions and just have some fun with it.”
Winterfest events will continue throughout the month, happening each Saturday in February.
“On February 10 is our ‘Brrr Crawl,’ where we’ll be visiting several of our local bars and distilleries,” said Shakayla Zoss of Downtown Lansing Inc. “We’ll have our ‘Riverfront Party’ on Feb. 17, with our friends at Lansing Shuffle. And then we’re going to close our Winterfest with an incredible celebration we’re calling the ‘Fire & Ice Soiree.’”
