Michigan State Police (MSP) Director, Col. James F. Grady II, recently recognized several employees for their service. Among the honorees were D/Sgt. Ian Fields, MC Ofcr. Joshua Roll, Mr. Nicholas Dowker, and F/Lt. Robert Young, Ret. Four MSP members also received the department’s highest honor, the Valor Award, in a ceremony in East Lansing.
D/Sgt. Ian Fields, assigned to the Southwest Enforcement Team, was named the 2023 Trooper of the Year. Fields was acknowledged for his professional ethics, duty dedication, and community commitment. His achievements include recovering 20 stolen firearms and seizing large amounts of illegal drugs. Fields also focused on his team’s readiness and mental health, contributing to positive police-community relations.
Fields also participated in community events and led a fundraising initiative for school supplies. He also collected bike helmets for children and donated baseball equipment to a local Little League. Fields has been with the MSP since 2012, serving in roles such as a trooper and canine handler at the Wayland Post.
