MERIDIAN TWP. — A developer wants to demolish a vacant bank building off Grand River Avenue and replace it with a 2,560-square-foot restaurant with a drive-thru.
Meridian Retail Management II applied for a special use permit for the proposed restaurant’s drive-thru at 2731 E. Grand River Ave. in December, according to township records. The property is east of and adjacent to the future Trader Joe’s currently being built at 2755 E. Grand River Ave.
A former Bank of America building on the property would be demolished if the development moves forward, Meridian Township senior planner Brian Shorkey told the Meridian Township Planning Commission at its Jan. 22 meeting.
Developer hasn’t disclosed occupant’s name
It’s unclear what restaurant is intended to occupy the proposed building. A message left this week with Meridian Retail Management II wasn’t immediately returned.
Tim Schmitt, Meridian Township director of community planning and development, said the company has not yet shared the proposed building’s occupant with township officials.
