From February 4-11, 2024, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 690 service calls in an unspecified location. The highest call volumes were Traffic Stops (144), Suspicious Situations/Subjects/Vehicles (51), and Traffic Violations (39). Other frequent calls included Follow-ups (31), Citizen/Motorist Assists (29), and Alarms (26).

The report also noted Check Well Beings (22), Shoplifting Complaints (21), and Prisoner Transports (18). Traffic Hazards (16), Vacation Checks (15), Larcenies (13), and Property Damage Crashes (13) were also reported. The least reported incidents were Domestic Disputes (11), Subpoena Service (10), and Personal Injury Crashes (6).

The report emphasized Michigan’s Move Over Law, which requires motorists to slow down and move over for stationary emergency vehicles with activated lights. This law was highlighted due to recent incidents of police officers being injured or killed on the road, including a State Police Trooper hit a few weeks before the report.

The Move Over Law applies to various vehicles such as Police, Fire, Rescue, Ambulance, Road Service, Road Maintenance, Utility Service, Solid Waste Hauler, and Road service vehicles, including tow trucks and courtesy vehicles operated by the Michigan Department of Transportation. Sheriff Tom Reich signed off the update, reaffirming his commitment to public safety.
